Our Mothers are always there for us. They take us to school, make us food, and help us with our homework. They raise us from the time we are born and look after us long into adulthood. They are our mentors and deserve our respect and admiration.

We have a special holiday each year on the second Sunday in May to give back to them and let them know how much we appreciate everything they do for us.

Let's celebrate Mother's Day this year by taking our mothers out to dinner and giving them a nice card and flowers. There are some great resources here for the holiday and we wish all children and their mothers a happy holiday.

April 22: Earth Day

Now that it is spring, it's a great time to start thinking how we can protect our environment and take responsibility for our own actions that cause pollution.

We have some fun links here and a few worksheets that may be useful for your classes and introducing young learners to the harmful effects of pollution and what each of us can do to help.

Time to celebrate the Lunar New Year!

This week is the beginning of the 2 week long festival in China and other parts of Asia known as the "Spring Festival" and "Lunar New Year". It is arguably the largest celebration in China and is know for its fireworks and festivals. There are dragon dances and street fairs. Families gather together at home to start a new beginning. They eat dumplings and cakes. Red is the color of the season and everyone wears it for good luck in the coming year. Temples and palaces are decorated with traditional lanterns and evil spirits are driven away by the sound of firecrackers. Dating back to 2600 B.C., this New Years tradition is one of the oldest still being practiced by millions of people each year. It is also celebrated all over the world in big cities, from San Francisco to Sydney. Lets all welcome the year of the goat!
We have worksheets here for your classes!

Fun Stuff for Valentines Day!

February 14th is almost here, so it's time to start thinking about giving the special people in your life a reminder of how much they mean to you. Valentine's Day is a great holiday to teach students about love, friendship, sharing, and caring.

There are some great crafts you can put together with your kids in 30 minutes or less that will make the holiday more meaningful and fun. There are a few example pics here that are easily created using some paper, tape, glue, and a touch of patience. These are also great for working on those motor skills kids need.

We also have, as always, a selection of worksheets that can be used in class. These are already made and can easily be used to reinforce lesson plans or as a filler for a fun day. Enjoy!

Kids Stories and the Importance of Reading

We are always told growing up how important reading is. It is good for our mental development and is an essential part of our ongoing education. It is a valuable skill that you will use for the rest of your life for communication.

Beyond all that, reading is something that can open new worlds to young students and help them understand complex issues we face each day in life. Reading can inspire and motivate us to do better. It can give us new insights into people and cultures from all walks of life and encourage us to be better for others.

Reading should start early. Parents can read to their children before they even know what words are. There are many resources available for children's stories and books. Many of them don't cost anything. You can find them online or in your public library.

Here are some useful links for children's stories.

It's important to help kids understand that reading is more than just boring busy work. Encourage them and help them find their creative joy and imagination.
