Timed activities for students can be fun and challenging. It is a great way to get them engaged in class material and can be competitive and motivating. Have the students do a dialogue. Younger students should't have to do more than 3 or 4 lines in about 30 seconds or less.

A great way to spice up any game is to have some fake money to award students. You can use this for shopping activities or just as a prize in a board game.

  • And eyes and ears and mouth and nose

It is really motivating to students when they are rewarded for good behavior or excellence in academics.

Keep track of how your students are doing in class with assignments and homework, rewarding those with stickers, stars, or prizes.

When teaching young learners English, it is important that they use the language as much as possible in class. It can not be expected that every student will speak English all the time, but here are some ways to encourage students to speak more in class:

  • Have a rewards system (stars, stickers, etc...)
  • Always praise students when they do well
  • Get parents involved
  • Communicate expectations with co-teacher
  • Make classroom rules clear
  • Have strong student help weaker ones and act as monitors in class
