One of the biggest challenges working with younger English Language Learners is to ensure that each student is able to speak as much as possible during a lesson and get as much practice using the Target Language as they can. Using a "microphone" as part of the lesson can give lower level learners a boost of confidence and make it fun to talk. You can use many things as a mic including your own hand. I chose to make a simple mic on paper, print and laminate it, then put it on the end of a flyswatter with velcro. This really helped in my classroom with 3 to 5 year olds as well as working for older students.
